American Wood Fibers (AWF) was founded in 1966 and is recognized as a leader in the field of specialty forestry products. General Manager

American Wood Fibers (AWF), a rapidly growing manufacturer of consumer and industrial products sold to other manufacturers and to pet, agricultural and home heating markets, seeks a General Manager based at its Pella, IA Plant which does approximately $5M in revenue and employs approximately 20 team members. AWF manufactures at 10 locations spanning the nation, has 350 employees, and generates over $100M in annual sales revenue. The general manager will have P&L responsibility, responsible for managing staff and establishing and accomplishing business objectives.

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for all strategic and business operations (production, maintenance, safety, quality, and service) of Pella facility to include P&L
  • Effective decision making that positively impacts financial results, employee morale, and customer satisfaction
  • Assist with the direction and coordination of activities of departments concerned with the production and/or distribution of products
  • Serve as a backup to Office Manager and Operations Manager when they are out.
  • Manage staff (plant operations, maintenance, transportation, and office/accounting), preparing work schedules and assigning specific duties
  • Maintain and promote a culture of continuous improvement regarding safety and good housekeeping
  • Review financial statements, sales and activity reports, and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement and to determine areas needing cost reduction and program improvement
  • Establish and implement facility policies, goals, objectives, and procedures, conferring with senior management and staff members as necessary
  • Collaborates with the sales team in defining, developing and implementing sales and marketing strategies
  • Determine staffing requirements, and interview, hire and train new employees, or oversee those personnel processes
  • Raw material acquisition
  • Raw material and finished goods inventory management
  • Hiring personnel as necessary
  • Works in collaboration with other plants and management to effectively ensure overall business goals are achieved
  • Responsible for preparation of annual budget/plan and weekly financial/production reports
  • Assist in development of forms and tools to increase company efficiency and risk management
  • Assists in recommendations for new product ideas and new market opportunities
  • Researches and analyzes market trends and competition

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors Degree and 5 years management experience
  • General and operations management experience
  • Exceptional leadership and organizational ability
  • Background in manufacturing, engineering/maintenance, wood products, and transportation helpful

Accounting Support Specialist

American Wood Fibers (AWF)  seeks an Accounting Support Specialist based at its Marion, VA Plant. AWF manufactures at 10 locations spanning the nation, has 400 employees, and generates over $100M in annual sales revenue. The Accounting Support Specialist will perform all accounting functions in an efficient and accurate manner.

Key Responsibilities of the Accounting Support Specialist :

  • General Accounting functions including invoicing, reconciling accounts and direct debits
  • Updating and maintaining general ledger
  • Processing transactions including issuing checks, maintaining financial records, preparing reports
  • Payroll administration
  • Identifies, researches, and resolves issues as needed
  • Handle vendor relations, communications and contracts
  • Completes month and year end closing tasks and assists with audits
  • Perform office tasks such as filing, data entry, answering phones, etc.
  • Provide back up support in support of planning and organizing company sponsored events

Requirements for the Accounting Supporting Specialist :

  • Bachelors degree with 3 years of accounting experience OR the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office with a particular expertise in Excel
